Finding My Way Back to My Body

Achtsame Körperwahrnehmung als Teil des Coachings

Reconnecting with your body means learning to feel again instead of simply functioning. For me, it wasn't one defining moment, but a journey full of detours - through different careers, roles, and eventually, deep body-based work. Today, I know that none of those detours were a waste of time. They were all part of what made everything that followed possible.

Why I Was Disconnected from My Body for So Long

Two years ago, the simple question, "So, what do you do?" would immediately send me into a panic.

I believed I had to achieve something to be worthy of recognition. That belief shaped not only my career choices but also my relationships.

As a mother of three daughters, I was free from that pressure for a few years. But once they were all in school, the search for something meaningful to do with my life began all over again.

Moving from place to place didn't make that search any easier. And as long as I was disconnected from myself, how could I possibly know what was truly right for me?

The Long Way Around: Careers, Roles and Expectations

I started working in my then-husband's office. Later, I became a real estate agent, following in the footsteps of my late father.

I went on to run a bed and breakfast in northern Germany and completed my yoga teacher training. But eventually, neither felt challenging enough anymore.

So I returned to real estate.

At the same time, the desire to truly get to know myself never went away.

Eventually, that inner calling became so strong that I spent a year travelling through Europe, followed by California and Hawaii.

That journey made one thing very clear: I didn't want to return to the business world.

But what did I want instead?

The Turning Point: Recognising Trauma and Facing What Was There

As I began looking inward, I encountered significant trauma.

Until then, my survival strategy had been simple: don't look at it, don't talk about it, and keep going.

After the initial shock, I realised that something had to change.

I wanted to learn to listen to my body again. To understand it. To love it.

And through that connection, I wanted to begin healing my relationship with myself and with the people around me.

How My Training with Layla Martin Changed My Relationship with My Body

One of the most supportive parts of this journey has been my training with Layla Martin to become a Sex, Love & Relationship Coach.

Her work explores sexuality as a life force that exists within every human being. Through body-based, tantra-inspired practices, I began connecting parts of myself that I had previously experienced as completely separate.

It felt as though I had finally found the missing pieces of my puzzle.

My body was no longer just something attached to me while my mind tried to run the entire show.

And believe me, my mind had been working overtime.

Slowly, the balance began to shift.

My body was finally allowed to have a voice, a place and a meaning in my life.

What This Could Mean for You

Every chapter of my journey taught me something.

The office, real estate, the bed and breakfast, yoga, my podcast, writing and travelling - each experience brought me a little closer to myself.

None of it was wasted.

Perhaps you recognise that feeling of living almost entirely in your head, constantly thinking, planning and doing, while barely noticing what is happening in your body.

Sometimes, even one small moment of conscious connection each day can spark something.

Something that is allowed to grow gently, honestly and at your own pace.

This is where my coaching begins.

I support you in rediscovering your body as a partner in life, rather than something that simply carries your head around.

Frequently Asked Questions About Reconnecting with Your Body

What does it mean to reconnect with your body?

It means becoming aware of physical sensations, feelings and experiences again, rather than navigating life entirely through your thoughts. Your body becomes an active part of how you experience and understand yourself.

Why do so many people lose connection with their bodies?

There can be many reasons, including pressure to perform, traumatic experiences or the habit of pushing uncomfortable feelings aside. Over time, the mind may take over while the body's signals receive less attention.

How can coaching help you reconnect with your body?

Body-oriented coaching uses awareness and experiential practices to help you notice physical sensations and emotional responses. Over time, these practices may support a deeper relationship with yourself.

What role does sexuality play in reconnecting with your body?

Sexuality can be understood as a powerful expression of life energy. Exploring it consciously may open the door to greater awareness, pleasure and connection in other areas of life as well.

How long does it take to build a deeper connection with your body?

There is no fixed timeline. Everyone's journey is different. Even small, regular moments of body awareness can make a difference and gradually deepen your connection with yourself.
